Red Hawks win second conference game, top Lancers

KINSTON, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team won its second game in conference play and recorded its second-straight victory overall on Saturday afternoon, defeating host Lenoir 74-61 on Coach Bobby Dawson Court.

Sophomore guard Jonathan McFall paced the Red Hawks (5-4, 2-2 in Region 10) with 22 points — his third 20-point scoring performance so far this season.

Also reaching double figures in scoring in the win for CVCC were sophomore forward Sal-Bey Young (13 points) and freshman forward Tony Hauser (11 points).

Catawba Valley took a 35-29 halftime against Lenoir (2-9, 1-5 in Region 10) paced by McFall's 13 first-half points.

Leading by six points, the Red Hawks expanded their lead to double digits en route to the win. Hauser scored all 11 of his points in the second half of the contest.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday with the first of three home contests this week. The Red Hawks face conference foe Wake Tech (5-6, 5-1 in Region 10) in a 7 p.m. contest at the Tarlton Complex. Admission is free.
