
HICKORY, N.C. — A 3-pointer from guard Malik Hamrick with 29.4 seconds left helped lift the Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team to an 84-82 victory against Louisburg on Saturday afternoon at the Tarlton Complex.
Hamrick scored 15 of his 17 points during the second half, helping the Red Hawks (11-7, 6-4 in Region 10) rally from down nine points at halftime to pull out the pivotal conference home win.
Zion Dixon led the Red Hawks in scoring with 18 points and seven assists, while Zavion Bianchini added a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Benton Wofford also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points.
The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team will try to carry momentum from its thrilling home win to the court on Wednesday for another home conference game against Southwest Virginia. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
Women's basketball: Louisburg 73, Catawba Valley 54
The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team suffered a conference setback on Saturday afternoon against rival Louisburg.
Danasja Horne led the Red Hawks (7-11, 4-9 in Region 10) with 18 points, while Jada Whitesides added 13 points.
CVCC led 18-14 after the first quarter, but Louisburg would go on to outscore the Red Hawks 59-36 in the final three quarters, including 29-11 in the fourth quarter, to pull away for the win.
