HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College softball player Mayson Lail has earned honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Lail was named East Region Second Team by the NFCA for student athletes competing at National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II level.
This marks the fourth-straight year that a Red Hawk softball player has earned NFCA honors, and it is Lail's second consecutive NFCA All-Region award.
A Conover native, Lail recorded 149 strikeouts in 142.1 innings this past spring for the Red Hawks, tallying a 15-4 overall record along the way. She tossed 13 complete games and recorded a 3.00 ERA.
The St. Stephens High School product finished her Red Hawk softball career with numerous program records, including game appearances (57), wins (37) and innings pitched (308.0). She also ranks second in strikeouts (372) and complete games (25) and third in ERA (2.42).
Off the diamond, Lail, who majored in Teacher Preparation, carried a 3.6 GPA and was named to the CVCC's President's List.
Behind Lail, the Red Hawks finished their 2024 softball season with 23-11 overall record, including 19-7 mark in Region 10 games. Catawba Valley was also ranked as high as 17th in the NJCAA Division II polls.
