HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College softball program has announced its coaching staff heading into the 2025 spring season.
Returning for her second season on head coach Mickey Bolick's staff is assistant coach Kendall Settlemyre, while Adison Yoder joins the program as a first-year assistant coach.
"CVCC softball program is very lucky to have these two on staff," Bolick said of Settlemyre and Yoder. "The knowledge and experience that they bring at all levels of softball is exactly what a junior college needs. Some programs have one assistant coach with that type of experience, but we are fortunate to have two. They have played at the biggest places, and they have done everything that our players want to do with their softball careers."
Before coming to Catawba Valley, Settlemyre had previously spent five seasons on the coaching staff at her alma mater of USC Upstate where she was a a two-time Atlantic Sun performer and helped the Spartans win two conference regular-season and tournament championships. She played in three NCAA College World Series Regionals and coached Upstate in two of their NCAA Regional appearances.
A Fred T. Foard alumnus, Settlemyre helped orchestrate a Red Hawks offense last season that set numerous offensive records, including hits (501), runs (368), doubles (86), triples (23) and RBI (325).
"I would like to thank (CVCC President) Dr. (Garrett) Hinshaw, (Athletic Director) Nick Schroeder and (head coach) Mickey Bolick for this opportunity to coach here," Settlemyre said. "I'm excited for my second season with the Red Hawks and looking forward to another great season. I'm extremely grateful to continue coaching college softball and working on bringing home a championship to CVCC."
Yoder was a standout softball player first at USC Upstate before transferring to finish her collegiate plying career at Belmont Abbey. She was a second-team all-conference performer as a utility player for the Crusaders, earning Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
Also a former Fred T. Ford product, Yoder was named the recipient of the Big South Conference Commissioners Award at Belmont Abbey and was also a member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
"I am excited to be a part of the CVCC softball program and are very excited for the Red Hawks' future," Yoder said. "I am very grateful that this opportunity allows me to fulfill my goals of becoming a coach and working on my Masters degree in Mathematics at the same time."
Bolick is exciting for the additions of both Settlemyre and Yoder to his staff as he continues to build on a family culture for the Red Hawk softball program.
"They have a combined five trips to the College World Series, earned Division I Players of the Week, Division II all-conference — all that experience is here everyday for these young women in our program at CVCC," Bolick said. "I'm just lucky that I get to coach with two of my friends. We have been putting in a lot of hard work, and we are really looking forward to this season."
