
HICKORY, N.C. — Two members of the Catawba Valley Community College softball team have been honored by Region 10 for their play following the 2025 regular season.
Red Hawk outfielder Miranda Valerio and infielder Gionna Merhtens both received all-conference accolades as members of the second team.
Merhtens, a freshman middle infielder from Catawba, tallied a .417 batting average this spring season. She led the Red Hawks in several offensive categories, including home runs (six), RBI (39), extra-base hits (12), and slugging percentage (.667).
Valerio, a sophomore outfielder from Maiden, earned all-region honors for the second time in her career after being named to the second team during the 2024 season. Valerio led CVCC with a .435 batting average, 39 runs scored, 28 stolen bases and five triples.
The Red Hawks finished the season with an 11-26 record, finishing fourth in the West Division.
