MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team pounded the Patrick Henry Patriots for a 96-31 road conference victory on Thursday afternoon on Wingett Court at Stone Hall.
Sophomore center Zharia Brown scored a season high 25 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Red Hawks (10-4, 5-2 in Region X), while fellow sophomore Sherry Johnson added 21 points and 11 rebounds and six steals for her team-high eighth double double of the season.
Catawba Valley powered ahead of the Patriots by a 51-15 score at halftime. Johnson and Brown led the charge with 17 and 16 first-half points, respectively.
CVCC didn't miss a step in the third and fourth quarter, combining to outscore Patrick Henry 45-16 during the second half en route to its third-straight win.
Freshman Ivy Eller also reached double figures in scoring for the Red Hawks with 11 points.
The CVCC women's basketball team returns to court on Saturday for a home conference game against Wake Tech. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Eagles is set for 3 p.m.
