HICKORY, N.C. — Overcoming a slow start with a strong finish, the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team picked up its fourth-straight win on Saturday afternoon, knocking off conference foe Wake Tech 65-44 at the Tarlton Complex.
Freshman Ivy Eller paced the Red Hawks (11-4, 6-2 in Region X) with 19 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Zharia Brown added 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Red Hawks fought through a difficult first half to take a 21-19 lead at halftime against the Eagles (8-7, 4-5 in Region X). CVCC shot just 9-for-32 from the field in the first half and committed 14 turnovers.
Emerging from the locker room, Catawba Valley went on an 11-0 run to start the third quarter and would go on to outscore Wake Tech by a 27-8 margin during the quarter.
That margin allowed the Red Hawks to run away with the game in the second half en route to their sixth conference victory of the 2018-19 season.
The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to take on Louisburg College. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Hurricanes is set for 5 p.m.
