Red Hawks beat Dolphins for sixth-straight victory

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team overcame 27 turnovers on Friday afternoon to extend its winning streak to six games with a 55-41 home conference victory against Brunswick Community College at the Tarlton Complex.

Milequa Eason and Sherry Johnson paced the Red Hawks (14-3, 9-1 in Region X) with 12 points apiece, while Aniya Taylor added 11 points. Eason added seven rebounds and seven steals, while Johnson recorded 10 rebounds for her 10th double double of the season and third in the past four games.

Despite committing 12 first-half turnovers, Catawba Valley powered ahead to a 31-18 halftime lead against the Dolphins (9-7, 5-6). Eason scored all 12 of her points during the first half.

CVCC would commit 15 turnovers during the second half, but despite those mistakes would maintain a double-digit lead throughout the third and fourth quarters on its way to a 14-point Region X victory.

Kapria Pressley paced Brunswick with a team-high 13 points.

The CVCC women's basketball team will try to make it seventh-straight wins when it returns to the court on Monday night on the road against Johnston Community College. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Jaguars is set for 7 p.m.
