Taylor’s career night pushes Red Hawks past Indians

HICKORY, N.C. — Aniya Taylor recorded her first career double double, leading the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team to a 79-59 victory against USC Salkehatchie on Wednesday afternoon at the Tarlton Complex.

Taylor scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds — both career highs — to lead the Red Hawks (15-3, 10-1) to their seventh-straight victory. CVCC sophomore forward Sherry Johnson added 15 points and 10 rebounds for her 11th double double of the season.

Catawba Valley rushed out to a 45-22 halftime lead against USC Salkehatchie (7-11, 4-9), paced by 14 points from Taylor and 13 points and seven rebounds from Johnson.

Coming out of the break, Taylor ignited the Red Hawks in the second half, recording 11 points and eight rebounds on her way to a career-best performance on the court and a 10th conference victory against for CVCC.

Danielle Rainey also reached double figures in scoring for Catawba Valley in Wednesday's contest with 10 points.

Caliyanna White paced the Indians with 14 points, while Ashley Planter added 11 points.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it travels to face conference foe Fayetteville Tech. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. in Fayetteville, N.C.
