Red Hawks trounce Trojans; win streak reaches 8

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team stretched its winning streak to eight games on Saturday afternoon with a 61-39 conference road victory against Fayetteville Tech.

Sherry Johnson paced the Red Hawks with 19 points, while Aniya Taylor and Ivy Eller also reached double figures for CVCC with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Catawba Valley (16-3, 11-1 in Region X) quickly built a 16-4 first quarter lead before eventually going on to lead 36-20 at halftime. Johnson led the Red Hawks with 13 first-half points.

Down 22 points in the fourth quarter with three of its six total players having already fouled out, Fayetteville Tech (8-9, 5-9) decided to call the game with seven minutes, 42 seconds left in the contest.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday with a home contest against Patrick Henry Community College. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Patriots is set for 5 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
