Red Hawks’ Sherry Johnson signs with Mount Olive

HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College sophomore forward Sherry Johnson solidified her future on Sunday, signing to continue her playing career at the University of Mount Olive during a special ceremony held at the Tarlton Complex.

In her lone season with the Red Hawks, Johnson made a tremendous impact, leading CVCC in multiple offensive and defensive categories this past winter, including points per game (18.6), rebounds per game (10.5) and field goal percentage (48.8).

The Ashbrook High School alumnus set the single-season record for double doubles with 18, and she finished two double doubles shy of the all-time CVCC career mark held by Kadesha Gibbs.

On Feb. 5, 2019, Johnson recorded her career high in scoring, tallying 32 points in a 103-58 conference victory against Patrick Henry. It was one of three 30-point performances by Johnson during her sophomore season.

Behind Johnson, the Red Hawks finished their 2018-19 campaign with a 24-6 overall record, 17-3 mark in conference games and won the program's second-ever Region X regular-season championship.

Johnson becomes the 22nd Red Hawk women's basketball player to sign to move on to a four-year institution, and she's the first ever to sign with the University of Mount Olive.
