No. 9 Red Hawks win ninth straight, down Dolphins 74-47

BOLIVIA, N.C. — The ninth-ranked Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team improved to 10-0 in Region 10 play on Sunday afternoon with a 74-47 road victory against Brunswick Community College at the Dinah E. Gore Center.

Sophomore guard Aniya Taylor led the Red Hawks (17-1, 10-0) with a team-high 16 points in the contest.

Taylor was one of five CVCC women's basketball players, including Alliyah Chaplin (13 points), Jordan Jenkins (13), Ariana Montgomery (12) and Diamond Steward (10), who reached double figures in scoring in Sunday's game.

Leading 15-14 after the first quarter, Catawba Valley broke the game open in the second quarter by outscoring Brunswick 19-9 during the stanza to take a 34-23 halftime.

The Red Hawks would go on to outscore the Dolphins (8-13, 1-11) by a 40-24 margin in the second half, paced by eight points from Taylor and seven from Jenkins.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to court on Tuesday for another conference road contest — this time at Southwest Virginia Community College.

Tip off between the Red Hawks and Flying Eagles is set for 6 p.m. in Richlands, Va.
