Carmon’s 29 points pace No. 5 Red Hawks past Cobras

HICKORY, N.C. — The fifth-ranked Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to pull away and defeat rival Caldwell 87-63 on Friday at the Tarlton Complex.

Freshman Kelis Carmon scored 29 points to pace the Red Hawks (2-0) in the contest, while fellow freshman Kenzley Dunlap added 16 points.

Holding an 8-10 point lead for most of the first half, CVCC went on to take a 35-25 advantage at halftime paced by 10 points from Carmon and nine points from Astou Seck.

Catawba Valley maintained that advantage in the second half, but with just under seven minutes left in the contest and leading 64-56, the Red Hawks used a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away for good from the Cobras en route to the victory.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 7 with a road conference contest against Brunswick Community College. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. in Bolivia, N.C.
