JAMESTOWN N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team earned its first conference win of the season on the road on Monday, defeating Guilford Tech 70-56 at the Mary Perry Ragsdale YMCA.
Danasja Horne paced the Red Hawks (4-4, 1-2 in Region 10) with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Jada Whitesides — who was coming off a career-best 27-point performance on Saturday — added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
After falling behind 18-15 in the first quarter, the Red Hawks exploded offensively in the second quarter and outscored the Titans 22-10 during the stanza.
Horne led the second-quarter charge with nine points, while Whitesides added five.
Catawba Valley would go on to outscore Guilford Tech 55-38 in the final three quarters of play to close out the Region 10 road win.
LaTayshia Andrews added career-high 12 points in the win for CVCC.
The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team returns to action this weekend with back-to-back conference road games on Saturday and Sunday.
The Red Hawks take on Cape Fear in Wilmington at 1 p.m. on Saturday before they take on Brunswick in Bolivia, N.c. on Sunday at 5 p.m.
