
HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team earned its fifth conference win of the season on Monday, defeating Richard Bland 74-49 at the Tarlton Complex.
Danasja Horne led the Red Hawks (8-11, 5-9 in Region 10) with 23 points, while Kiya Shavers, who was celebrating her birthday on Monday, scored a career-high 20 points.
CVCC powered out to a 39-24 halftime lead against Richard Bland (5-14, 5-11). The 39 points are tied for the most points scored in a half this season by the Red Hawks.
Horne led the way for CVCC at the half with 10 points, while Shavers and Erianna Scott both scored eight points each.
The Red Hawks would go on to outscore the Statesmen by 10 points in the second half to pull away for their sixth home win of the 2024-25 season.
Jada Whitesides also reached double figures in scoring for CVCC in Monday's game with 11 points.
The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday afternoon for a conference contest at Cleveland Community College. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. in Shelby, N.C.
