
HICKORY, N.C. — Seven members of the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball program have been honored for their performances on the court and in the classroom following the 2024-25 regular season.
Red Hawk women's basketball players Danasja Horne and Jada Whitesides were named All-Region 10 second team and third team, respectively.
A Winston-Salem, N.C. native, Horne averaged a team-best 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest this past season. She also led the team in 3-point field goal percentage.
Whitesides, who is from Forest City, N.C., was the second-leading scorer for the Red Hawks at 14.7 points per contest this winter, and she led the team in total field goal percentage at 41.1 percent.
Additionally, every member of the Red Hawk women's basketball program received Region 10 All-Academic honors, including sophomores Caleeya Duke, Jayden Lynch and Erianna Scott and freshmen LaTayshia Andrews, Kiya Shavers, Horne and Whitesides.
The Region 10 Academic All-Region honor is given to student athletes who have a 3.7 GPA after their first semester or 3.6 GPA with two or more semesters of classwork. A total of 26 DII students athletes from nine colleges in the Region were award.
"Here at CVCC we strive for excellence in the classroom as well as on the court," said Red Hawk women's basketball head coach Tisha England. "I am so proud of my ladies for embracing the challenge of learning and being a true student-athlete. As their leader, it's progress such as this that makes me continue to be that advocate of mentoring these young ladies to become positive productive citizens."
This is the fifth time in the past six seasons that the Red Hawks have placed four or more women's basketball players on the Region 10 Academic All-Region.
