Red Hawks cruise in first round match over #13 Northeast

The Red Hawks Vvolleyball team was able to open up the NJCAA DII National Tournament with a 3-0 win over #13 Northeast CC (NE).  The Red Hawks were led by Megan Fair who posted 11 kills while Savanah Dishman added 7 of her own.   Mariah Wallace posted a team high 13 digs and was tied with teammate McKala Bozman with 4 blocks.  Ada Thompson had 29 assists.

In the first set the Red Hawks were able to use an initial surge to jump out to a 7-3 lead.  However, Northeast answered tieng the match up at 13 all.  The Red Hawks used an 8-2 run capped by a Dishman kill for a 21-15 lead.  A Wallace kill closed out the first set with a 25-20 win for the Red Hawks. 

The second set was a back and forth match with both teams holding leads.  With the Red Hawks up 16-15 they were able to reel off 5 points and a Fair kill closed out the second set 25-19.  In the third set the Red HAwks found themmselves down 12-13, but outscoring Northeast 9-2 the Red Hawks took a 21-15 lead.  Trading off final points Dishman was able to knock down the final point and a set, match win. 

With the win the Red Hawks advance to the Quarterfinals to face #5 Coffeyville who is on a 33 game win streak and defeated #12 Grand Rapids 3-0 in the first round.
