Red Hawks volleyball makes program history in 3-0 win over #5 Coffeyville in semifinals

When the final point was scored against #5 Coffeyville in the Red Hawks Quarterfinal match in the NJCAA DII Volleyball National Tournament program history was made in 3 parts.  The Red Hawks have now gone farther than ever in National Tournament history by claiming a spot in the semifinals.  Also with the win the Red Hawks claimed a program high 41 wins in a season and with the win Coach Shannon Hudson claimed he 250 win at the helm of the CVCC Red Hawks. 

In the historic win the Red Hawks were led by Savanah Dishman and Megan Fair.  Both logged 12 kills while Dishman was repsonsible for 15.5 points and Fair with 14 points.  Mariah Wallace added 11 kills.  Ada Thompson had a team high 14 digs as well as 35 assists in the match. 

The Red Hawks came out flat in the first set quickly falling behind and due to 6 service errors the Red Hawks were in a 15-21 hole.  After a Coach Hudson timeout the team rallied outscoring Coffeyville 12-4 and taking a 27-25 comeback win.  The Red Hawks used momentum from the first set to take a 21-13 lead in the second set.  However, Coffeyville rallied and made a close set but the Red Hawks were able to close out Coffeyville at 25-20.

In the third set the Red Hawks found themselves trailing again with an 11-15 score.  With the team trailing 21-23 the Red Hawks battled back in in a battle of both teams unwilling to break the Red Hawks were able to get a final block to claim a hard fought 29-27 win.

In their first trip to the National Tournament semifinals the Red Hawks will face a familiar foe in #1 Parkland.  In an October tournament in Illinois the Red Hawks fell to Parkland 0-3 (22-25, 14-25, 16-25).  The semifinal match will be played Friday, Oct 18 at 6:30pm.  The winner of this match will face the winner of #2 Owen CC and #3 Lincoln Land CC in the National Championship match on Saturday.
