Four Red Hawks named All-Region X volleyball

BOLIVIA, N.C. — Four members of the Catawba Valley Community College women's volleyball program were honored prior to the start of the Region X/District P tournament at Brunswick Community College on Friday.

Red Hawk sophomores Leslie Leonard and Sabrina Pinard and freshmen Emilee Webber and Emily Williams were named All-Region X performers for their play this season.

Leonard, Pinard and Webber were all selected by the conference's coaches to the first team, while Williams was voted to the second team.

A middle hitter, Leonard (Morganton, N.C.) enters the Region X/District P tournament with the best hitting percentage in the Region (.433) and also the third-best hitting percentage in the nation. She led Region X in total blocks (127) and blocks per set (1.31) and has also posted 211 kills (2.18 per set) and scored 2.9 points per set for the Red Hawks this season.

Pinard (Huntersville, N.C.) — a right side —was responsible for 2.2 points per set this season for CVCC, and she also posted the seventh-best hitting percentage in the region (.283).

A setter from Denver, N.C., Webber was second in the region in assists with 729 (6.45 per set). She also contributed 305 digs defensively and made 108 kills offensively.

Williams, a libero from Statesville, N.C., was the defensive leader on the court for the Red Hawks this season. She posted a region-best 683 digs, which also ranked her 15th in the nation. She also made 80 assists and contributed 43 kills on the attack.

The Red Hawks start Region X/District P play Friday at 1 p.m. against Guilford Tech. The Red Hawks swept both meetings against the Titans this season.

The winner of the Region X/District P tournament advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association Div. II tournament, which takes place Nov. 16-18 in Charleston, W.Va.
