Red Hawks’ Tatu signs with Greensboro College

HICKORY, N.C. — From a Red Hawk to member of the Pride, Catawba Valley Community College sophomore Hailey Tatu signed on Thursday to play volleyball at Greensboro College.

"I'm super excited," Tatu said of signing. "Coming into CVCC, I really didn't have a plan. Coming out of high school, I didn't know what I wanted to do. I didn't know if I was even going to get to play (volleyball), so coming here (to CVCC) really helped me kind of figure out not only what I wanted to do, but who I was. Just getting that opportunity to continue playing and finish my degree is amazing. I'm blessed, and I'm excited to keep going."

Tatu finished her sophomore season with 36 kills, nine aces, 62 digs and 14 blocks, helping the Red Hawks finish their season 28-9 overall with a sixth-straight Region X regular-season championship.

As a freshman, the 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Mooresville, N.C. was also a part of the Red Hawks' third-place national finish in 2016 — a team that went 41-7 overall.

Tatu finished her Catawba Valley career with 86 kills, 125 digs, 20 blocks and 124 points.

Playing volleyball at Catawba Valley has meant everything to Tatu.

"The coaches are amazing," she said. "I got to do some things I thought I'd never be able to do. We went to Niagra Falls twice. We went to a bunch of different places and we won. We won a lot. We went to the national championships. I've met some of my best friends. I wouldn't trade these last two years for the world."

Tatu plans to pursue a degree in business administration while attending Greensboro College.
