Harrington, Clark earn tournament honors in Fla.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Catawba Valley Community College freshmen Emma Clark and Sage Harrington were selected to the Pasco-Hernando Bobcat Invitational tournament team following the event this past weekend.

Clark, a middle hitter from Boone, N.C., tallied 36 kills in four matches for the Red Hawks, and she added 17 blocks and 10 digs on the defensive end. She also made four aces on serve.

Harrington, a middle hitter from Taylorsville, N.C., had 28 kills in her four-match appearance at the tournament, and she also made 16 blocks at the net on defense.

Below are the Red Hawks' results from this past weekend's tournament in Florida:

Indian River State 3, Catawba Valley 2

The Red Hawks fell behind two sets early in the match against the Pioneers and despite a late rally fell in a five-set thriller during their opening match at the Bobcat Invitational on Friday.

Set scores were 15-25, 21-25, 27-25, 26-24, 12-15.

Siena Naotala paced CVCC with 12 kills while Emma Clark added 11 kills and seven blocks (two solo, five assists).

Defensively, Rachel Delcamp tallied 14 digs and Emily Williams added 13 digs. Setters Macy Pope and Emilee Webber recorded double-digit assists with 19 and 17 each, respectively.

St. Johns River State 3, Catawba Valley 0

Behind 12 kills from Lindsey Grossman and 11 kills from Hanna Foecker, the Vikings shut out the Red Hawks in the nightcap of day one of the Bobcat Invitational on Friday.

Set scores were 18-25, 18-25 and 24-26.

Siena Naotala led the Red Hawks' offensive attack with eight kills, and Rachel Delcamp and Sage Harrington added six kills apiece.

Defensively, Emily Williams tallied 15 digs, and Macy Pope added 13 digs and a team-high 12 assists. Setter Emilee Webber also made 11 assists in the match.

No. 8 Pasco-Hernando 3, Catawba Valley 1

The host Bobcats earned a hard-fought four-set victory against the Red Hawks in CVCC's first match of day two of the Pasco-Hernando Invitational on Saturday.

Set scores were 22-25, 22-25, 25-12 and 21-25.

Emma Clark paced the Red Hawks in the match with 13 kills and three block assists, and Sage Harrington added eight kills and five block assists.

Defensively, sophomore libero Emily Williams made a season-high 25 digs in the match, and fellow sophomore Emilee Webber made a team-best 15 assists.

No. 17 Kansas City Kansas 3, Catawba Valley 1

The Red Hawks dropped a tough four-set match to the Blue Devils to finish off play at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 21-25 and 16-25.

Rachel Delcamp made a team-high 13 kills, while Emma Clark and Sage Harrington added eight kills each.

Emily Williams tied her season-best performance defensively with 25 digs in the match, and Emilee Webber made 16 assists and 15 digs.


The Catawba Valley volleyball team returns to action on Friday when it starts play at the Monroe College Invitational in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Red Hawks face Snow College (1 p.m.)and College of Southern Idaho (5 p.m.) on Friday and take on Hillsborough Community College (2:30 p.m.) and host Monroe College (6:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
