HICKORY, N.C. — For the fifth-straight year, the Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program will be hosting its annual Region X-travaganza.

The Red Hawks welcome eight other Region X teams to the Tarlton Complex for the two-day event, which kicks off on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Tarlton Complex.

"The Region X-travaganza is always a great time for us to get together with our conference teams and have a great weekend of competition," said Catawba Valley head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. "Of course we are sad that Cape Fear and Fayetteville Tech won't be able to join us because they are recovering from Hurricane Florence, but it's nice to have Region X together for this event."

Among the teams participating in this year's event are Surry Community College, Wake Tech Community College, Pitt Community College, USC Lancaster, USC Salkehatchie, Bryant & Stratton College, Louisburg College and Davidson County Community College.

The Red Hawks start play at the event at 12:30 p.m. Friday — marking their first match since playing in the Pasco-Hernando Bobcat Invitational in New Port Richey, Fla. on Sept. 8.

"We've had some really good practices this week, and the girls are anxious to play again," Hudson said. "Although we missed our New York City tournament, I think the Owens and Pasco tournaments have prepared us well for this weekend, and I'm excited to see the team compete again."

2 p.m. -  Catawba Valley vs. Wake Tech (court one) and USC Salkehatchie vs. Davidson County (court two)
3:30 p.m. - Pitt vs. USC Lancaster (court one) and Bryant & Stratton (Va.) vs. Wake Tech (court two)

Saturday, Sept. 22
9 a.m. - USC Lancaster vs. Bryant & Stratton (Va.) (court one) and USC Salkehatchie vs. Pitt (court two)
10:30 a.m. - Catawba Valley vs. Pitt (court one) and Wake Tech vs. USC Lancaster (court two)
12 p.m. - Bryant & Stratton (Va.) vs. Surry (court one) and Louisburg vs. USC Salkehatchie (court two)
1:30 p.m. - Catawba Valley vs. Surry (court one)
