Red Hawks earn split on day one of Parkland Challenge

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The 14th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team earned a split during day one of the Parkland College Halloween Challenge on Friday.

The Red Hawks record is now 28-9 overall on the season — the same record the team achieved last fall.

The Loggers ended the Red Hawks' eight-match win streak with a four-set victory during both team's opening match of the Parkland College Halloween Challenge on Friday morning.

Set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 17-25 and 21-25.

Sage Harrington led the Red Hawks in the match with 13 kills — one of three Catawba Valley volleyball players with double-digits kills. Emma Clark (11 kills) and Rachel Delcamp (10 kills) also tallied at least 10 kills during the match.

Defensively, sophomore libero Emily Williams made 23 digs and freshman setter Macy Pope added 20 digs and 22 assists. Sophomore setter Emilee Webber added 17 assists.

Clark (six assists) and teammate Siena Naotala (one solo, six assists) paced Catawba Valley with six blocks each.

Behind Sage Harrington's 11 kills and five blocks, the Red Hawks rebounded with a straight sets victory against the Skyhawks during their second game of the Parkland College Halloween Challenge on Friday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-22.

Emma Clark and Rachel Delcamp added eight and six kills each, respectively, for Catawba Valley.

Libero Emily Williams paced CVCC defensively with 23 digs, and Madi Bolch added 16 digs.

At the net, setters Macy Pope and Emilee Webber helped spark the offensive attack with 17 and 15 assists, respectively.


The CVCC volleyball team finishes off play at the Parkland College Halloween Challenge on Saturday with two matches. The Red Hawks play McHenry County College at 10 a.m. followed by a noon match against Carl Sandburg College.
