Preseason scrimmages a success for Red Hawks

HICKORY, N.C. — The fifth-ranked Catawba Valley Comunity College volleyball team held a successful preseason scrimmage at the Tarlton Complex on campus Saturday.

The Red Hawks finished the day with winning nine sets and dropping only three after playing Lenoir-Rhyne University, Catawba College, Lees-McRae College and Belmont Abbey College.

Freshman outside hitter Aasia McNeill led all hitters with 20 kills, Meredith Patterson tallied 19 and Emma Clark and Siena Naotala both contributed 18 each. Setter Macy Pope led the offense with 50 assists and freshman Amber Barker recorded 37 assists.

Patterson (nine aces), Emma Clark (seven) and libero Bre Myers (five) paced the Red Hawks from the service line.

On the defense, Myers tallied 32 digs, Patterson added 26 digs and McNeill etched 24 digs. Emma Clark led the blocking team with 10.5 blocks, while Siena Naotala (5.5 blocks) and Sage Harrington stuffed (three solo blocks, 2.5 assisted) also contibuted on the block for CVCC.

The fifth-ranked Catawba Valley volleyball team now turns its attention to its regular season opener on Tuesday against Southwest Virginia Community College. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
