PERRYSBURG, Ohio — The fifth-ranked Catawba Valley Community College closed out its two-day appearance at the Owens Invitational on Saturday with a pair of victories against Edison and Mott community colleges, finishing the event with a 3-1 overall record.
"I am so proud of our girls and how well they played together this weekend," said Catawba Valley head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. "The Owens tournament always provides us with great competition, and this year was no exception. Of course, Parkland was our toughest match, but we rebounded quickly after the loss to finish the weekend with three nice wins. We learned a lot as a team and that was our goal heading into the tournament."
Red Hawks sophomores Bre Myers and Emma Clark and freshman Aasia McNeill were named to all-tournament team for their performance during the weekend event.
No. 5 Catawba Valley 3, Edison 0
Behind 12 kills from Sage Harrington and 10 from Emma Clark, the Red Hawks swept the Chargers in straight sets on Saturday afternoon during their first match of the day for CVCC.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19.
Harrington added four blocks defensively for the Red Hawks (4-1) in the victory, while Aasia McNeill and Emma Clark added three and two blocks, respectively.
Libero Bre Myers led Catawba Valley in digs with 12, and setters Amber Barker (19 assists, 10 digs) and Macy Pope (13 assists, nine digs) also helped contribute both on the attack and on defense.

The Red Hawks racked up a season-high 15 aces in a three-set victory against the Bears to close out their 2019 Owens Invitational appearance.
Set scores were 25-18, 26-24 and 25-15.
Sage Harrington once again led Catawba Valley in kills with 11. Emma Clark recorded four kills, three blocks and a team-high five aces and freshman Aasia McNeill added nine kills.
Defensively, libero Bre Myers tallied a career-high 22 digs, and setters Amber Barker and Macy Pope combined for 28 assists.
The Red Hawks are scheduled to return to the volleyball court this Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a road conference match against USC Salkehatchie.
However, CVCC is monitoring the progress of Hurricane Dorian, which could affect that contest taking place.
The Red Hawks' weekend volleyball tournament at Pasco-Hernando State College in New Port Richey, Fla. has already been postponed due to the hurricane.
