No. 6 CVCC sweeps VA matches; Clark etches 300th block

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., and SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — The sixth-ranked Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program completed a two-match swing in Virginia on Friday with a pair of sweeps against Bryant & Stratton and Richard Bland College.

With the victories, the Red Hawks improve to 26-4 overall, and the victory over the Bobcats moves CVCC's conference record to a perfect 10-0.

The Red Hawks made it 136 straight conference wins on Friday morning by defeating the Bobcats on the road in straight sets.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-14 and 25-14.

Emma Clark led Catawba Valley with 11 kills and four blocks. During the match, Clark became just the second-ever CVCC volleyball player to reach 300 blocks in her Red Hawk career — joining former Red Hawk and UNC Charlotte standout Anna Henderson.

Also leading the attack for the Red Hawks against the Bobcats were Lilly Weaver (six kills), Sage Harrington (five kills) and Macy Pope (four kills and eight assists).

Defensively, CVCC libero Bre Myers tallied a team-high 10 digs, setter Amber Barker led the team with 10 assists and defensive specialist Abigail Gordon made a team-best four aces.

The Red Hawks closed out their Virginia road trip with a non-conference sweep against the Statesmen on Friday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-15.

Emma Clark once again paced Catawba Valley, recording 15 kills and six blocks. Sage Harrington added six kills and two blocks for the Red Hawks, while Aasia McNeill and Lilly Weaver both recorded five kills each

CVCC setters Amber Barker (13) and Macy Pope (10) combined for 23 assists to help facilitate their team's offense.

Defensively, Catawba Valley libero Bre Myers recorded a team-high 13 digs. Barker added nine digs and Pope tallied eight.


The CVCC volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday for its final regular-season home match of 2019. The Red Hawks welcome Belmont Abbey for "Sophomore Night" at the Tarlton Complex. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
