No. 2 Red Hawks remain unbeaten, defeat Knights, 3-0

HICKORY, N.C. — The second-ranked Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team remained undefeated on the season Monday night with a 3-0 victory against visiting Surry Community College at the Tarlton Complex.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-16 and 25-12.

Outsider hitter Lilly Weaver led the Red Hawks (8-0, 6-0 in Region 10) with a team-high six kills and three aces, while middle hitter Kennya Sykes and outside hitter Carter Gibson added five kills apiece.

Setter Amber Barker aided the CVCC offensive attack with 21 assists, and Weaver paced Catawba Valley defensively with nine digs — part of a 40-dig performance by CVCC.

The CVCC volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday for a conference contest against Davidson-Davie Community College. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Thomasville, N.C.
